Issues Concerning the Improvement of Public Councils’ Activities Discussed in Astana

The Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan held a meeting with the chairpersons of Public Councils in the regions and cities of republican significance, as well as council members who are part of Қазақстан Халық Кеңесі (the People’s Council of Kazakhstan).

Participants discussed proposals to improve legislation governing Public Councils, increase the effectiveness of public oversight, ensure that councils’ recommendations are taken into account, and develop cooperation with Қазақстан Халық Кеңесі.

Particular attention was paid to cooperation between government bodies and civil society institutions, as well as to taking regional public concerns into account when shaping the national agenda.

The participants’ proposals will be considered in the drafting of a bill aimed at improving the activities of Public Councils.
